    My Girls

Here is my first official post for comments. My girls and I had a photo shoot shortly after I got my Canon 7D. Pretty much auto settings, as I am still learning, and finding it a bit overwhelming...

    Here goes...

    Hi Kathy,
    I'm not a portrait shooter,yet.So I won't critique.
I will say my favorite in the group is #4 B+W.I like the composition and the conversion.

    Hi Kathy,

Some time ago I wrote up a series of lessons on these types of shots - just wondering if you've seen them?

I like the cropped Image better, in the first one my attention is drawn to the background, in the cropped one i key in on smiles

Ohhh! That cropping did make all the difference. I love it! You are right James, much more focus on the girls! Thank you Mary, I tend to think they are beautiful, but I'm a bit biased. They are at least willing victims to my obsession! Thank you Colin, I will have a look at your lessons!

    Hi Kathy,

I have left you a couple of comments

If I have one bit of advice, having reviewed them all; it would be to pay a little more attention to the backgrounds next time, the subjects are fine, there are no 'screaming at you' errors of pose, focus, exposure, etc.

A little less DoF (by using a wider aperture) might help blur the backgrounds some more, A couple I looked into had been shot at f/10 or f/8, so there is room for manouevre (sp?).

    Well done,

Thank you Dave! With all this great advice I feel inspired to brave the weather (-23 C here right now) tomorrow and venture out for some new photos. Could be a self portrait as I'm not sure I will convince anyone to go with me...
