Thread: Landscape Lens Recommendation

  1. #1

    Landscape Lens Recommendation

Semi-beginner photographer looking to do more landscape work, have a canon 50d, looking to invest "enough" money to get a very nice lens. i'm wondering if anyone has any good recommendations for this general type of work (obviously something with a nice focal range, semi-wide angle). ef17-40 looks intriguing...any experience with this lens?

Down below these posts, at the left hand side you'll see 'View Tag Cloud'. Click on this and from the list that appears click on lenses.

You will then be presented with a list of threads in which the subject of lens purchase has been discussed. I'm sure you'll find your answer in there, as this is a subject that comes up very regularly.

Don't understand why not. The alternative route isto go into 'Advanced Search' (that's up near the top right). In 'Tags' type in lenses and then hit search.

    Could you check again.

Below this post on the left there is +Reply to thread. Then below that do you see 'Tags for this Thread'? And below that 'View Tag Cloud'?

    ps - Aaahh. Maybe it's because you're a new member. I think there's something that doesn't kick-in until you make, I think, 5 posts.

a ctrl-f search of this and other pages within www.cambridgeincolour.com returns zero matches for "tag" or "cloud" (except within user-input text bodies)

nor do i see any image-based buttons that read "tag could" anywhere

    Hi Donald,

I've got a feeling that there's still an additional demarcation at 100 posts; I'll ask Sean to take a look at it.

I have 50 posts (ok, this one makes 51) and I see the "View Tag Cloud" action just above the "Posting Permissions" heading. Perhaps a profile setting needs to be turned on to make it visiible?

Thank you all for coming in on the 'View Tag Cloud' problem and telling us what your situation was/is. It means we've spotted that there is an issue to look at and we're already on to it.

    Re: Lens Recommendation

Last spring I did some landscape photography in Yosemite National Park, California and I used my 24-70L along with a 12-24mm f/4 Tokina (on a pair of 1.6x cameras). These were a great combination, although I tended to use the 12-24mm lens towards its longer end and the 24-70L towards its shorter end. I could probably have been O.K. with just my 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens.
