Just Bought my Daughter a Medium Format Camera!!!

Being the kind and caring daddy that I am I bought Rebecca a brand new medium format camera for Christmas. It will replace the hand me down Canon 450D and put my 40D to shame

    Specs:

    Film: 120 roll film
    Lens: Plastic meniscus
    Shutter; spring loaded plastic
    Body; Low impact plastic
Flash; 1 AA Battery. Range 30cm
    Canon Compatibility; Via adaptor

Of course this camera requires special techniques to be employed when shooting. Most important is that you remain completely anonymous

Technique 1 - Hide behing the camera

Just Bought my Daughter a Medium Format Camera!!!

    Technique 2; the backhander

Just Bought my Daughter a Medium Format Camera!!!

    Technique 3; Camo

My deplorable sense of humour aside Rebecca really wanted this little gem and the camera is regularly employed to get students to just shoot...forget the technique, forget the flashy gear and concentrate of taking photographs. The results are pretty arty and quirky too. For anyone crazy enough to have a go you can find plenty about what they call Lomography on the web. A good start is here

I am seriously considering the Canon mount adaptor

Is that as well as the 24-70 f2.8 L that you bought for me?

Rebecca - Have fun with it. And post up some of images once you start making them.

I'm sure they're quite cheap if you buy 2 at once

Great present - Have fun Rebecca!

My students use these and Holgas...great results. It was also nice when a film lab went bust and gave me 6 cases of Tri-X 120 film...it's a lot of film and I still have lots left after three years.

No. It is instead of. Father Christmas decided you were far too proficient already without filling your sporran with L glass and anyway Scotland is a bit chilly when he is used to the balmy climes of the North Pole.

You do realize that this is really a brilliant blog post?!!
Katy, I am far too haphazard to be a blogger. I would have to think about what I am writing and that would never do

Try telling that to the Fantastic Three when I tell them to tidy their rooms.

Health to the family and yourself in 2011.
Many thanks Antonio and a very happy new year to you and yours too.

Kay, please don't encourage him. I couldn't bear those expectant doleful eyes and those cute floppy ears.

My students use these and Holgas...great results.
Chris I must say I am looking forward to seeing the results. Rebecca has also managed to get hold of an old polaroid land camera from somewhere and she is eager to try that out too. What is really nice to see is that there appears to be a trend with younger photographers to try out these cheap cameras as a way of producing unusual imagery.

If you manage to find some Polaroid film, let me know. It's tough to come by.

Great selection! Now, you need to get her a decent tripod for this camera. I suggest this one because, when shooting medium format, you certainly don't want a flimsy set of legs...

BTW... It the camera doesn't have a tripos socket, try Super Glue...

I have to confess that until you posted this I had never heard of Lomography. And then this month's copy of Black & White Photography popped through the mailbox yesterday ... and what do I find but references to Lomography.

That's a tad overkill for this type of very plastic camera. I use super el cheapo Bogen tripods for these cameras and Monfrottos for the bigger stuff.

I find Blu Tac less permanent. It gets plenty of use in stopping my subjects rolling away. My grandmother used to Blu Tac all her ceramic ornaments down so that she couldn't knock them off when dusting! That tripod is almost as sturdy as my ancient Bilora Stativ (made from girders)

Absolutely. He needs to be dragged, kicking and screaming, out of his traditional, northern, cloth-capped way of thinking and join us young things in seeing new vistas opening up in every direction!!

    Chris,

You can get it from the Impossible Project and also from some sellers on ebay. For Christmas my wife bought me a Polaroid camera and i already have a back for my Fuji GX680II.
