    Keep your distance

Not my usual sort of shot really!

I don't really have the eye for street, although the 'loose like Jazz' MO could suit my "skill" set

But as I happened upon this scene, I was immediately struck by the humanity of it!

The body language of the 3 people, forced into the confined space of the bus shelter made me think of the way we perceive strangers, and our reticence to engage or even acknowledge one another in the modern age.

    Here's the shot

    Keep your distance

Nicely seen and captured, you should try SP more often.

A common occurrence perhaps, but seldom really seen.
    Well done.

This is definitely an interesting shot. If it were my image, I might be tempted to straighten and trim that small part on the bottom of the image that is not being blocked by the glass.

But that part shows that it is a bus stop Manfred and IMO it adds to the image.Don't you think so

No, I don't think so otherwise I would not have made the comment. I recognize it as a bus shelter, because I have seen enough of them. I find that this discontinuity breaks the flow of the image and it would look better without it.

I see your point Manfred. But I think I still like the image as is

Great eye! I would prefer either more of the area underneath the glass (actually, probably plastic) or none of it.

    Re: Keep your distance

Thanks for all the positive comments.

I respect all the crop more or go wider view points, and reading the replies en masse, there are clearly people that think one thing and those that don't!

FWIW, I think that with a shot like this, the 'pass / fail' is whether or not it serves to demonstrate an everyday moment, indicative of human nature, yet preserved in a photograph (which I guess is as good as description of street as any), but that said we are all fairly committed these days to critiquing every image, from corner to corner, and I'm not complaining about it, because knowing what people look at and look for in shots is very enlightening, so thank you all very much (especially those of you that liked it as is, I'm just kidding, it's all welcome! )

I posted this in a street critque group on Flickr, and two people picked me up for (and I quote) 'adding fake film grain' it's a bus stop, so it's clucking frosted glass... Idiots.

So I really apprecaite the more applicable crit I get on here, so sincerely, thanks again

Thanks very much... I've tried a few times, but nothing came out as well as this (in terms of the human commentary)

I might post an outakes thread... But the shots don't have depth, and a few of them are plagued by lousy technique that will be shown no mercy on here

The trouble is.... I PERSONALLY think of street as having something to say, to portray or else it's reportage, which is fine, reportage is great, but the trouble is, I then put my pretentious hat on and try and get a bit arty with it, and then it becomes another pretty throw away picture... Which is generally what I aim for tbh!

Adam, I joined Flickr a short time ago and for me it is a place to show my photos and to get inspiration by looking at other images but certainly not a place for criticism. If I were you I wouldn't get into discussions there at all. Also what if you add some fake film grain to your images, as long as your image has the mood you can do anything you like to your photo

Be glad they didn't cite you for adding fake blur.

I'm thick skinned enough to take it, and it's educational to get a feel for how others "think" and "see" but I 100% agree with you, it's not a place for serious discussion!

    A Closer Look

    There you go "Omi"

I hope it's as well received as it was for you, actually no screw it - if one person other than myself likes a shot of mine, then it was undoubtedly worth hitting the shutter

    Thanks very much!

Adam...+1 to Binnur's comment. I am on the camp of leave the bottom uncropped...the blurred version looks artsy and the bottom is reality. Just my take.

And oh, btw, I still have to finish reading your blog. I really like the simplicity of it...lots of things to learn there too, I should say.

    Thanks very much Izzie,

And I really appreciate your comments about my blog, there's many great blogs from many outstanding togs, and I'm neither! However I'm trying to aim for something that (hopefully!!) inspires people to want to take shots, no matter their location or ability.

I'm really trying to stay away from topics like what camera people should get, or ten top tips to get awesome shots in photoshop

I feel this 'niche' is filled already

I have one top tip, open your eyes, look at the world and point some sort of image capturing device at it!

To be honest, I can't see it catching on :P
