Arachnaphobics look away now. Nice series.
It's finally warming up in NY so hopefully I can start posting my macro shots as well. Nicely done. Are you using the Canon macro lens with the 5:1 magnification? I use the Nikon 85mm macro, sometimes with extension tubes.
Cheers Graham, I forgot to put up the WARNING SPIDERS sign![]()
Thank's Zak, will look forward to your posts bud, these were shot with my 100mm Canon, it is still a tad windy here for the MP-65![]()
Impressive set - compelling whether you like these awesome arthropods or not. Someday someone will ascertain that there is a genetics to arachnophobia and a separate one for ophidiophobia (terror of snakes), as these seem essentially hardwired when present... and I have a tad of the former. but beautifully captured.
Are these much cropped? It would be one way to do as well as you have with DOF - to back the lens off a bit and then crop - but maybe you just did that well with the f/14 and in tight?
Fascinating!

David, great set!
Thank's John![]()
Cheers Mark, I suppose it is easy for us that do not have a phobia to take these things for granted, but it is no laughing matter if you suffer from any of those you mentioned, or any other phobia for that matter!
They have been cropped a tad, but I try and shoot at 1-1 whenever possible, any one who has tried Macro knows your depth of field is more limited than normal shooting, but we still get people not wanting O.O.F bitshence trying to crop those bits off!
Cheers David

Thank you Barbara, cheers for commenting![]()
Great shots - as usual David, my compliments
Possibly Mark - personally I'm wary of almost anything that has quicker reactions/attack speed (than I can get out of the way of)
I prefer to have the ability to wield the 'upper hand', or foot, if necessary
Factor in also that the behaviour of some 'wildlife' (in the widest sense) is unlikely to cause me harm even if I'm close, while others might give chase!
So I'm fine with butterflies, but I'm averse to most moths
Small or slow spiders are OK, but these, well I'd have to observe their behaviour carefully before risking getting this close, they look scary to me, but I do find their anatomy interesting and photos can't hurt me
I won't list all my likes/dislikes![]()
