Story very effectively told with composition, light, and color that I think are very nice.
Nice capture of the droplets, color, and energy of the people hurrying along.
wow John, at first glance I was what the heck? Then I looked at it in litebox , and became very intrigued. First I was grabbed by the colors . then the repeating patterns throughout, the brick pavers, the bigger square pavers, the checkered blue raincoat, the flannel style umbrella even the blurry squares of the buildings leading down the street. Then the glue that brings all this together is the rain perfectly caught!
I have to commend you on seeing a scene and catching the feel of the environment.
Creative...really![]()
I like it a lot John,
About the only small criticism I can mention is that the manhole cover is rather predominant in the foreground and upsets the repeating pattern of the paving blocks.
A watercolor!
Great shot, John. I have to ask: are you holding that umbrella in one hand and shooting with the other?
Love it John,well captured bud!
John,
It's not easy to capture rain well without the light in the right direction and pretty hard to capture water drops.
If we now consider that both the above plus an interesting scene have all been captured together there's really only one conclusion to me, greatA winner.
As for inspiration it's the result that counts.

Anyone who views this without using the Lytebox is really missing a treat, including such fine details as the drops of water falling from the foreground umbrella. The position of the manhole cover is a strength for me. Exceptionally well done!
Brilliantly conceived ... and executed.
Thanks all for a great set of comments. Done for a club annual competition on the theme of "Rain" which we are seeing quite a lot of at the moment.
Greg, I was sheltering in a doorway. The original was put through a couple of PS filters (might have been Nik). The umbrella was taped to some step ladders in the garden with a hose pipe providing the drips, then layered on later. I thought it needed some thing more in the corner to lift it and to hide a white building that caught the eye too much.
The umbrella is an excellent foreground element. I can imagine a whole series of street shots taken in the rain with that umbrella in the corner. It's a nice anchor.
Thanks Lex, thanks Greg.
Lex, now there's a thought!
