    Need some advice please

The first is SOOC and yes I have cleaned my lens, no dust bunnies now.
The second is what I have done so far with the image but I'm not sure where to go from here?
I had a ND filter on so I could slow the shutter speed to smooth the choppy water out and I was happy with the result. First time I have used one.
I'm not pleased with the sky, not sure what to do there, it just seems a bit bland?
The boat has been there as long as I can remember and I finally stopped today to try to do it justice. It was someone's pride and joy once
Ok my peers, where to go from here. B&W, gaussian blur. I'm open to suggestions.
I will frame the image when finished, How to do that would be appreciated.
If I get this image to my satisfaction I would like to enter it into a photographic competition.
I could win $1000000.00 or a pat on the back, either would do.
    Cheers, Greg

Nothing much you can do with the sky if it was clear and bland to begin with. You could try sky replacement but I would just go and get another shot.

The glazed windshield on the boat is somewhat distracting (to me), perhaps which another angle might fix.

Otherwise a splendid shot with many things to explore.

I think the image is fine as is. The plain sky isn't bothersome at all and if it were more interesting that interest might be a distraction. The only thing I can think of to perhaps improve it is to try different compositions, shooting using different perspectives and the like. Even so, I can't think of any particular idea that would surely be an improvement.

You "see" the shot in your mind, but I don't think that you've nailed it yet. Try working it again for different angles, much like Kelby suggests in this video...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpHMuK7Htic

If this is the only shot you have,I would try to crop from where the air meets background land on the right side (air sholdn't be seen at all),this cuts some of the boat as well but It doesn't seem bad to me at all,it leaves a little bit of land at the top and it seems good to me,just an opinion Background is not very interesting and makes this composition crowded,if your concern is the old boat, try to make it stand out by cropping the distracting area.I would also crop some from the right side as well

As a Brit, I like that sky - we see too much grey.
i agree with Chauncy, don't think you've nailed it yet, but there is a project there - different angles, maybe different DOF's, different focal lengths and also different weather - she's a beautiful subject and from what you say, not going anywehre sometime soon.

Thanks all for your input. I will try your suggestions.
I have another 20 or so shots I took to work on and as Kaye said it's not going anywhere so a re-visit might be worth so plenty of opportunity to capture the image I have in mind.
Bobo, the windshield is perspex so it looks glazed from all angles

I like what I'm seeing here, but there are other possible angles as others have said.

    Re: Need some advice please

Hi Greg, there are a couple of things to consider if you are looking for different shooting angles. A diagonal the intersects the edge of the frame runs the risk of cutting the image in two and/or taking the eye out of the scene altogether. In this case the grey railing, along with the walkway, chop the image in half. If you were to the right with the railing coming out of the left upper corner it might work out better.

Try to make it clear what the primary center of attention is for the image. In this case, both the boat and the walkway are reasonable sharp, and large so both are competing for attention. Shooting from a position to the right may help this as well by adding more emphasis to the boat and less to the walkway. Most images fare better if the scene is somewhat simplified and that would help.

As others have mentioned, the background doesn't command much interest but the walkway takes your eye directly to the background. You may want to play with increasing the bokeh with a shallower DoF to bring the attention back to the interesting parts of the image.

You don't have enough sky to be of any great concern and you likely don't want the viewer focusing on that part of the image. But if you wanted to, you could use a polarizing filter to make the sky a bit more blue or, perhaps better still, shoot during the golden hour to get a more interesting sky.

    Hope this helps!
