Go on take it - don't neglected it

There are odd things or places on my way home from work that I think as I drive past that one day I will stop and take a photo. I am sure it is the same for just about all of us. So today I stopped at a spot I have driven past on and off for at least 15 years. Partly because for most of that time there was not a safe place to stop. That excuse ceased over four years ago. It was a bit of a disappointment and the lighting was a bit harsh but I am going to post a couple of the photographs anyway just because I finally stopped. I must stop again when it has more water flowing.

Hopefully it will encourage you all to stop, take a photograph of something you should have taken years ago and add it to this thread.

A general view of the spot.
Go on take it - don't neglected it

Go on take it - don't neglected it

Go on take it - don't neglected it

CC if you want but my main objective is to get others to take and post a photo of something they have neglected. (no spouse, children or garden etc. pix that is not what I mean)

How I would love to do that.

The reality of living in a Metropolitan area in South Africa since becoming a democratic free country is that you don’t stop anywhere to take a photo.
    Chances are:
1.) Some idiot will crash into your parked vehicle
2.) You will be driven over
    3.) You will get hijacked
4.) You will be robbed of your equipment
5.) The police will find your body in a ditch 2 days after you have disappeared.
How often have I not seen these opportunities in the area I live in but it is simply not worth taking a chance to stop and take a photograph.

I will be driving to and from work in the dark until late February now (sunrise at 9am and sunset at 4:30pm currently ) So I will not be able to take any pictures until the weekends.

This is not quite the same thing as yours; of not taking advantage of something you see every day. But it is an opportunity lost that eats at me. My wife and I were driving to New Plymouth from Lake Taupo. I got this shot but there was a massively better composition about 200 metres back up the road; Mount Taranaki was the size or maybe a little larger than the tree from that site Rather than walk back I shot from here (which was the only safe place to pull over) It still bothers me that I didn't walk back

Go on take it - don't neglected it

wow, that sounds horrible. You describe your country like it's hell. SA is actually one of the countries I want to visit someday.

Andre it does not have to be on your way home. I am happy to have a photograph of any photographic opportunity that so far you have ignored.

Trevor joint a huge club and the lighting and sky in the pleasant photo you did take really deserved to be exploited fully. Often I have had to kick myself for not stopping at the first opportunity on the assumption that there will be a better shot with a safer stopping place etc. or simply because of time or apathy I do not walk far enough or climb a fence to make the best possible use of the location. Some days I seem to be in a mood where I stop at everything and leave no stone unturned (photography wise) other times the enthusiasm does not kick in and I go past an opportunity thinking I will see a better one and a bit further on I start wondering why I did not stop and should I turn around and go back. Much to the bewilderment of my wife I sometimes do go back.

Murat I think most countries have locations where it probably wiser not to stop and take photographs. Sometimes our fears are completely unfounded but it is better to be safe than sorry as the saying goes.

Of course reported crime levels are up post Apartheid...Many were scared for their very lives to report crimes before.

From the report you quote above:

'Crime victims are less likely to report crime in a country with an oppressive or incompetent police force than in a country where the police are helpful and trustworthy. The distances people have to travel to the nearest police station, and the availability of transport to get there, is another factor..'

However, let us not forget that this is a photography post on a photography site.

    Hi Murat,

It is not that bad if you know the country. Know where to go and know what to do. You end up in the wrong place and you are in trouble.

You must definitely visit SA some day, I still believe it is one of the best countries to live in, in the world. You will enjoy it here. Sure we must have the best climate in the world. Some of the most beautiful places to visit. One of the most diverse populations in the world. The best infrastructure in Africa.
All I am saying is be very careful of what you do in certain areas. Find a good tour operator that will take you to safe places only.

Now look at what this New Zealander has to say, they don’t even know how to spell crime. If I may ask LPaul, when last did you activate the alarm in your house when you go to bed at night?
