The Changing Colours of Lake Moogerah

I took these shots yesterday evening at one of my favourite photography haunts - Lake Moogerah, about 1 hr west of Brisbane. The first was taken just on sunset and the second about 15 mins later.

I took a lot of shots over a period of about 1/2 hr and when I was taking the shots, I thought the second shot shown here would turn out the best. However when I came to process the images, the first shot shown here caught my eye.

The colours are fairly strong in both images but have not been enhanced to any great extent in pp. I feel that the GND filter adds a certain richness to the colours, particularly reds.

I'd appreciate any comments on these images, including any preference for one or the other.

I agree with the view that the first image is better. Both great shots, though.

Dave, both of these photographs are great although I favor the first one.

I prefer the first image, Dave, because the sun provides a stronger focal point. Also, I would be inclined to crop a little from the bottom of both photos because in each one the light is the subject and the foreground provides little interest: I see it as only a framing device here.

Thanks for the comment Greg. These shots are 3:2 out of the camera and have been cropped to 16:9, roughly centrally in the vertical direction from memory. I'll have a play with this, probably just moving the crop up a bit ie bit more sky, bit less foreground.

The second shot is nice, the first is a stunner.
