Right place right time thing - not often does one get to see this sort of scene.

Beautiful capture. Even feels very romantic.

Thanks Bobo. Agreed, it is missed most times taking only a minute or so and then most don't realize what it means as they start bobbing their heads. I myself have only seen it once before this day, but on this day saw it 3 times. lol

Excellent series Paul. I love the second one - I swear he is smiling. The last one is kind of comical too, looks like he has his way with her and then tries to drown her.

Just curious, but is it a bit early for mating? I hope the chicks don't freeze if winter ever actually gets here.

I have witnessed a similiar act, but my skill in capturing it was very lousey. Great shots Paul.

Wendy, it does seem to be a little early....the 60+ days may have them confused. I am honestly not sure when the mating season is and this may be the start. Oh, and who is Mark?

James, I have seen you get better all the time and am confident that you will have no issue capturing it fantastically the next time you have the chance. Thank you.

Excellent shots. I have been trying to get some shots of Western or Clarks Grebes in their mating ritual where they "run" across the top of he water. However whenever I go to my local grebe filled lake, Lake Hodges in Southern California, the darn birds are just not in a romatic mood.

I also just don't have the patience to spend as much time at the lake as I would need to. This lack of patience for nature photography dooms my talents in that area...

The grebes mate at least twice a year and I have been trying to catch the action.

Thanks for the link Richard. I had not seen this Grebe yet. I am rather new to chasing birds and honestly did not realise there is so many species around here that I have not yet seen/noticed. I have been watching the Teals fight for a mate the last few days but the always seem to be on the wrong side of the sun.

Paul I used to live along the Tennessee River and I always enjoyed the ducks... funny Wendy should mention the drowning cause the first time I saw the act I thought for sure the mallard was gonna drown her
