    This Is Why We Don't Do Formal Portraits

    Boys. But, they fill my heart even if they don't cooperate... ever.

    I think that's great composition. Darling boy with a clear background not interfering with him and then that tree just at the side. And of course the management of depth-of-field gives real pop. The arrangement/composition lends itself perfectly to the 'pose'. It just works. Excellent image.

    Hah! Perhaps when girlfriends start visiting and that's the only kind of photos you have hanging on your walls of your son, he'll start cooperating more... Or perhaps less... but that's the gamble you take.

    This was last weekend, at his university... with the girl... sigh. I tried.

    And she probably thinks it is cute, so you're getting teamed up on there.

    Oh well, I still think it is a great shot. Captures a fun spirit.

    Plus, remember it is 10000x better than someone who gives a scowl or ducks out of the way every time you point a camera at them.
