This image below ware captured a month ago with Sigma lens f2.8 macro with 2 additional lights & a diffuser, inside a room. But I have difficulty to capture cakes outside the room, suppose in the balcony or terrace which count on daylight, I managed to use tripod & diffuser as well, low ISO, but the colour seemed dull to me. Anyone could help?

'Strawberry Tartlet_with_dropping_sugar' (captures inside the room)

'The Earl Grey' (captured in the pastry cafe)

'Chocolate Truffle' (captures in the pastry cafe)

This type of scene is always difficult. It sounds easy but is a rather specialised field to get perfect.

I suspect that part of your problem is that the backgrounds are too similar to the subject material.

The first photo would probably work fine with a softer background colour and the last one is cropped just a little too tight.

But this is a specialist subject that I keep well clear off - photographically speaking that is!

Willie or Jiro is fine by me.

    Re: Cakes Images

Some nice post-processing edit can make these images pop! I like #2 and #3 due to the interesting use of shallow depth of field. Nice work, Venny.

And yea, I would have tried different PoV for #2 image or would have straightened the existing image so as to have the pastries at same level.
