    Mark,

You have created four beautiful individual pictures that also work very well as a series. If I were to be really really nit picky, I would suggest slightly dropping the exposure on the fourth one. You would want to keep it brighter than the third but not quite as bright as it is now.

Very nice photos, and an interesting series. However, if you are going to present them as a series, the fact that a swim dock appears in two different locations in two of them but not at all in a third struck me. Was that just perspective, or did you clone it out once?

    Mark, an excellent series !

I like all of them, but especially the first and the last. However, I would have preferred a different angle though that’s just a personal preference.
In the first, with its dominant black and white tones, the light from the lamp is still present whereas in the other, it’s the soft and even natural light that prevails.
The structure of the pier and the surrounding lake remain present, connecting the two moments in a simple and natural way.

    However...
Looking more carefully at the last two images, I concluded that they were not taken in the same place, unlike the first two, which seem to have been captured from different positions.
    I might be mistaken...
In any case, I noticed that in all the images the ground is covered with a mesh that resembles what we call "chicken wire" here, which I believe is intended to prevent people from slipping when the temperature drops and ice forms.

Anyway, just a couple of nit-picky comments about aspects whose importance is irrelevant compared to the beautiful overall quality of the project presented.

    Dan and Antonio,

I believe the first two photos were taken from the shore end of the pier. The third and fourth were taken from the light end of the pier; the third looking left and the fourth looking right.

    Dan,

It's not meant to be a series, just the same location.
The 3rd and 4th are me standing in the same spot, just 180° different direction.

    Thanks Antonio.

The angles were negotiated with each shot as I was not alone. You can see this in the first where I'm off centre to the wharf.

Yes, chicken wire everywhere for grip I assume, as it can snow there.

Sometime later and off to the side on a sandbar.

    Glenorchy Wharf

These trees are often photographed. Unfortunately when I was there the sky was meh! and the water level low, revealing a lot of red sludgy mud. I've cropped tightly as you can see to remove the mud. Not sure if the image is balanced L & R.

I had a squiz at these for several reasons - because I recognized your name from our recent conversation on Lee Filters; because they're more of your work from New Zealand and I am a sucker for good Landscape work from NZ; and because you use Canon - not Nikon (well to be truthful the last reason was a Ford/Holden joke), the other reason was really that I hoped I see more of the EF16 ~35/4L IS USM.

I am not disappointed, nice shots.

I am also a sucker for the artistic and poetic use of Iris Star Flares - the Black and White is a cracker.

As a by the way: it's been my experience that creating (quality) Iris Star Flares is more difficult with Zoom Lenses than with Primes and further more difficult with an odd number of Blades - however - it seems that the 16~35/4L does a great job: almost all the Flares are even and all are sharp.

    Thanks so much Bill.

I have a gazillion NZ shots that I've whittled down to ~80 possibles, most of which are 16 to 35mm as I'm a sucker for wide. I have more to post (once i remove the green band to which i seem to be blind to until after PP......) but don't want to be "THAT GUY" you know......
