Hello everyone, I have a recently purchased a Canon 30D and it seem that the maximum I can go with the shutter is only 1/250th when i know that it is capable of 1/8000th, is there anything I can do to change this Many Thanks Lewis the (newbie)

Hi Lewis, and welcome to here!
Have a look at Sean's (site owner) tutorial here on exposure and light. https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tu...a-exposure.htm
It all depends what settings you are using. Can you give a few more details - what settings are you trying?
I am shooting in Manual Mode with the camera
I'm guessing that the camera either has a flash in the hotshoe, or the camera THINKS there is a flash in the hotshoe. Have a look throught the view finder - press the shutter release 1/2 way down e- and sse if the flash "lightning bolt" symbol appears.
If it does - and there's no flash - then I'd say that the microswitch is stuck down.
OK, in manual you can set both aperture and speed to whatever you want, but the exposure indicator will go off-centre if it's too dark or light. To get a 'normal' exposure you want the indicator to show at the centre of the range, but you can have it more or less than that for a more creative shot. Can you not do that? I just did it with my camera.
What camera do you have? Make and model.
I have no problems what so ever setting exposures with the meter, aperture, ISO are fine ...but getting the shutter faster that 1/250th is just not happening, I have a Canon 30D
There is no flash unit attached to the body
No the flash does not pop up when pressing the button, could it be something to do with the custom settings ?
Have you tried resetting the camera to its defaults?
Fantastic reseting the camera back to it's default factory settings has worked ...thankyou so much
It's always either that or a good bash with a hammer
