Brian, is the optical illusion the zipper along the centre

Not sure what's happening in the colour version but there is a definite blue hue in the darker background area on the right and the overall image is looking a bit flat.

One thought, when this starts opening there may be more depth to the critter so it may be worthwhile doing some tests to see what you can achieve at f/18 before he emerges.

I see an image being reflected from a dark mirror/tabletop. I did power up the blue a bit. The right side bg definitely has more colour than the left.

F/18 is where my gear starts to noticeably lose IQ.

I would be interested in seeing a result of this at f/18 and to see if any drop in IQ can be compensated for in PP.
