Montreal Metro

I've recently returned from visiting my son in Montreal. It's not really a tourist city so you need to get creative with your photography. I tried some street photography with very mixed results - i.e. most images are in the trash can. But as it is a city I will return to (whilst my son continues to live there) I have in mind some projects for future visits, some to improve/extend on what I shot this time and some new ones.

This set was inspired by a magazine article on Metro Systems and is definitely one I want to re-visit. So C&C on these images welcome as well as ideas for improvement

I like all three Kay but the figure on the stair opposite makes no.3 for me. Hand held?

Very creative, Kaye. Can't offer any useful C/C as a photographer but as a viewer nos. 1 and 3 are creative and invite lingering a bit to study the image. Nicely done.

For me, Kaye, the first one is an odd effect where the platform appears to be moving while the figures are static. An interesting idea but I can't really settle with it.

The second image is from a difficult angle where you have rather a lot of out of focus foreground while the right side figures are tight to the edge. It is difficult to get this sort of scene perfect when relying on unconnected people to be in exactly the right place at the correct time. And it is very difficult to place yourself in a perfect shooting position when the subjects are moving around according to their own whims. As I know only too well from my attempts at street photography.

I wonder if this is one of those situations where a slightly more panoramic crop to lose a little of the foreground might help to 'connect' the two sets of figures?

The last one is certainly an interesting idea which does work for me.

Kaye - you missed some of the main photo highlights in Montreal. Next time you are in Montreal - head to the Old Port / Vieux Port part of the city. Some very old and beautiful buildings, the Basilica interior is a gorgeous blue and the whole area along the waterfront is quite interesting. The Olympic Park has some unique photo opportunities and sections of the old Lachine canal are really great sites too.

I seem to remember you were there to see the Canadian Grand Prix, so that is probably not the best time to get out and photograph as the downtown area is quite busy with all of the race fans in town.

#3 caught my eyes --the reflection of the figure just at the slight area of the stairs is very nice indeed.

Thanks Geoff - that's an interesting perspective you have on the first image which I can't see. I agree no 2 is the weakest of the three. My attempts at street photography were pretty feeble but lots of learning for next time

Thanks for looking Manfred. There are more to come from our trip although I will confess not to have gone in the Basilica we did make the Olympic Park. The weather was none to kind - absolutely sweltering for our first 8 days, we then went 'up country' and when back in Montreal the Grand Prix just took over....waste of three days really but that's a female view my husband will not share ! I will post some more later

Nice set Kaye, - #3 for me although I do like #1 as well - but thats probably because i am a sci-fi fan and this is a image that has a 70's film futuristic look to it for me
