    Round-Leaved Orchis

    Round-Leaved Orchid

    Nikon D750, Tamron 90mm macro, f11, 1/25 sec
    6 shot stack

This orchid is native to the deciduous woods in my neck of the world. I was quite pleased to find these about a mile from home....bonus!.... although not exactly rare, I do not find them that often. Deer find them quite tasty.

Nice looking blooms and well taken. How tall are these?

Nice image, and an interesting plant. The plant looks in many ways like an iris, but the flower is very different. I haven't seen the varieties indigenous to this area, but from what I have seen online, most of the local ones have only basal leaves. I'll have to keep a lookout.

Have you thought about a slight crop from the top?

Dan, It probably would benefit from the crop

This is more representative of the entire plant

Thanks. With the full plant in view, it looks nothing like an iris.

My Goodness! That is not very tall at all even in the bloom department but it is pretty (and wild).

Thank you for commenting, Izzie. Although I shot a single plant, there was a patch of many nearby that showed up quite well.

It was an ideal situation, I asked for and was granted permission to access the property. It was calm and sunny at 9AM, I had plenty time to set up my macro rail down low without eating too much dirt and snap away.....took me two tries though, the first time I forgot to set everything to Manual.
