Beautiful result both stacked and f 32 alone. Interesting as I just downloaded a Zerene trial so this is all new to me especially the idea of an aperture stack. Thanks for posting!

Larry...tell me the result of your trial. I may have to take a look at it myself when I come back from my vacation.

Many thanks for posting the f32 image. It loses a lot of sharpness due to diffraction and nowhere near as good as the stacked image.

I've never tried aperture stacking myself but it seems like a good compromise between taking just a single shot at say f16 on an APS-C camera and using a focus rail.

I may have started it to soon. In a week or so more flowers will be blooming and I may have time to experiment. But, this aperture stacking has me curious. Getting a Tamron 180 also makes me want to get the most out of this very sharp lens.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for posting the f/32 capture.

Many thanks for posting the f32 image. It loses a lot of sharpness due to diffraction and nowhere near as good as the stacked image.

I think the stacked (first) image has had more output sharpening applied than the f/32 capture - this can be seen as a light halo at the edge of the petal in some places (in the first image) - although that's not to say it is overdone. I am just saying it doesn't seem that fair a comparison.

That said, diffraction may also play a part, but since the focus distance/setting was not changed between shots, theoretically, the only bit that should be sharper due to diffraction would be biased towards the centre, where I assume it was focused - the closest and furthest parts should, due to DoF, still be sharper in/from the f/32 shot.

    Something to try one day.

I still think it is a great result though - I'm just gonna enjoy looking at it some more.
