Very nice lighting Jack. It is a good one.
One rather obvious mistake there. That is a hoverfly not a bee; check the antennae.
An Eristalis species I suspect.
When I look at this in Lytebox there is good detail n the petunia's hairy underside. And when I look at it at maximum size, Lytebox crops about 1/3 off the top, making the flower and fly the subject of the image. I'd try that crop, Jack.
Thanks Alan.
Geoff, I had my doubts from the get go about the bee part but then...I'd a needed another approach to the title.
Greg, I'll take a look and play around with the crop. This happens to be one of those times I have the pixels to crop tighter. Thanks for looking.
That's the kind of colour I invariably blow out, so nice job, Jack. I'm inclined to agree with Greg that it would be even better with some of the top taken off.
Lovely shot, Jack...I really like the lighting in this one...The bee looks like it is going to jump to the next flower down...so it has a story to tell here...
A nice one to be sure. Whether you say so or not![]()
This image does not work for me and does not reflect your real talent, i am afraid....
# the fly is not well focused
# there are too much purple flowers in the background, making the image a bit messy
# the foreground flower is not getting sufficient distinction it ought to have
Hope you don't feel bad, since i said it as i felt![]()
I agree the fly is not well focused, especially since the foreground flowers are quite sharp.
Not sure I agree with your assessment of 'too much purple', it was all that color that caught my eye, although others have suggested a crop off the top which I think would de-purple it some, I will give that a try.
No worries, if I were going to feel badly about criticism I wouldn't post images and go looking for it, criticism is how we improve.
[you've peaked my curiosity, what do think my real talent is...?]
Nicely done.
Hi Jack. Beauiful colors, cropping from the top seems to be a good idea![]()
I think the main problem, if there is one, is that the fly is standing on the very back edge of the DOF, and it may have moved causing its body to look out of focus even more than it is.
I think this would be a great shot IF you could clone out the fly. I really like the lighting on the flowers and the detail of the fir on them on the bottom side.
I was watching this picture more... i think if the fly were sharp, all other points i mentioned would have volatilized!!!![]()
