    'Painted' seagull taking off

I have been 'away' for a while so please excuse the lack of involvement until now, hopefully will be able to be more involved again now.

I was playing around with over exposure and slow shutter to get a blurred high key effect with seagulls as there are a few around and they are very accomodating by hanging around a bit while I play! I was mainly looking for a painterly effect in camera as I am probably too lazy to do learn to do it in PS , I think this works quite well. I printed it at A3 on matt paper and its got a real feel of charcoal and wax crayon effect. Minor exposure adjustment and a couple of other basic tweaks and a crop was all.

I should imagine it would look good as a print. It is the sort of photograph I would like to print using Epson's water colour paper.

I'm liking this image, the blurred wings, blurred reflection, the X-shape and the face in focus, it all works for me. I can see this hanging on a wall. I might experiment to see how it looks in B&W but as it is definitely works.

Thank you Paul, I have some test paper at A4 including some Hahnemuhle matt fine art textured so will be playing with a few types of paper, including watercolour papers, I agree its begging for that treatment

Thanks Jack, its almost a monochrome already - but certainly worth a look - another style to play with and print to see how it hangs.

    Cheers John, appreciated.

I like that Mark. Definitely one for the wall when you have decided on paper texture. Interesting technique as well.

I love this image and I agree with John that it is definitely one for the wall. I do like the empty space in the left frame. Although I prefer B&W to colour photography this one with the subdued colours works well to my mind.

    Thank you Nandakumar, appreciated

    Cheers Mike,

John, appreciated, at the moment its on a standard matt paper - going to play with canvas and with textured watercolour to see what gives the best feel to it.

Ole, thank you, its close to monochrome as it is so i left it that way, may yet B&W it and see how that works

Thank you Izzie, good to be back, must admit to having a bit of an 'artsy' time at the moment - not many bugs about

Cheers Dave, was looking for something a bit different and seem to have got it with this one, I will be trying the technique again on other shots but the subject matter is going to be the key to this working I think

There are other things to photograph while the bugs are out, especially with a macro lens and tubes...you shouldn't be lost even without bugs...

Izzie, yup, and I seem to have diversified into arty shots, PS manipulation of flowers and landscapes amongst other subjects - I am doing a 52 week challange with my photo club so subjects are ranging far and wide.
