Two images from a walk along the coastal path last night...

Went for a walk along the Gower coastal path with the camera last night and I was lucky enough to witness this

Hi Matt, lovely colors and a lovely scene again I think you have curving horizons in both photos if my eyes are not wrong. If you held your camera downwards while shooting ,it might have caused such a thing. Some perspective correction might help.

Thanks Binnur, I did notice that but convinced myself it was my eyes

What a wonderful scene well captured! In the first image, consider darkening or cropping to eliminate the brightest part of the sky, as it pulls my eye upward away from the central part of the scene.

The horizon issue could have been caused by the lens itself as opposed to the direction it is pointed. Much post-processing software has a capability to automatically detect the lens that was used and then to automatically correct the distortion caused by the lens. If your software doesn't do that, it's relatively easy to make the adjustment manually.

When you think that type of distortion might exist but wonder if your eyes are fooling you, simply use your software to display a grid over the image or move the image so the horizon is displayed at the bottom or top of the window it is being displayed in. Comparing the horizon to a straight line will immediately inform you as to whether your eyes are fooling you.

Thanks Mike, I thought about cropping out the bright part of the sky but then I thought it would leave the viewer wondering where the light on the water is coming from?

The viewer knows that light reflected on such a large expanse of water comes from the sky and at least I feel very comfortable about that without seeing the light source.

Two cracking images Matt, which will be even better once you get rid of the distortion on the horizon. I'm with Mike on the bright sky in the first, if you don't wish to crop it off I would suggest that you subdue it a little, to my eyes it currently gives the impression of being blown highlights at its brightest part.

Cheers Peter, I tried the crop but wasn't really happy with it. I'll try and lower the highlights tomorrow when I get a chance to see how that works.

Yes I'm with Mike on this one. I really like the first photo the best. I would try cloning some of the dark clouds into that bright area at the top of the photo, and I would clone out that "dotted line" on the left of the photo. That is a tad distracting to the eye.
I love the way the foreground leads the eye around the cliffs to the headland and then to the shafts of light in the sunset.

Fabulous as ever. I like the rough reflection of the sun on the water in the second shot.
