I am kind of glad I didn't get the email as it gave me an opportunity to look at the scene and convey how I would light it which was not far off from your set up.

Don't worry about not remembering flash settings, in all honesty they would make no difference to any input I would make, in my reply I was intentionally vague about shutter speed and f/stop because these are things that can only be determined when you are in the space on the day, It is pretty obvious you have a good command of your camera and a solid technical background so you will work it out. What I hope did come across clearly was the need to get more ambient into the frame and take some more control of your software.

I don't use any modifiers on site that often, just bare flash bounced into ceilings and walls, I do carry a couple of $1 shop white shower curtains though that I will bounce light off if the walls are going to induce a colour cast, I also use them to soften reflections of windows that are behind the camera. If I was shooting high end Architectural stuff I would bring a truck load of modifiers to the party.

I was thinking bounce/shoot-thru umbrellas and a couple of reflectors in the mobile kit for this genre. I haven’t used umbrellas that much because for what I usually like to shoot they are definitely not the tools needed. "Architectural Digest" probably isn’t going to invite me to the party so I’m trying to keep it simple (and mobile)!

Yes sir! That is becoming quite clear as I start to explore this and your emphasizing that is definitely giving me a further nudge towards that. I figured it would take me a bit to get where I’m going so eliminating things is a good way for me to get there.

Funny, I was at the outset hesitant to post these interior shots here because I didn’t think I would get the kind of feedback I thought I needed here. I guess that was because I hadn’t seen much of this genre posted to this Forum.

Boy howdy! I’m pretty sure I couldn't have been more wrong about that!

Its very cool that all you guys are chiming in and I got a pro RE shooter helping me out to boot. I don’t get a lot of this kind of feedback on my studio work here. I have to go to another specialized forum for that. I have often wondered why and I have some theories.

So I want to again thank everyone for taking an interest. Very cool feeling! I owe a lot of rounds of beer/ale/wine/cocktails all around but since we are all over the place and I can’t do that (though it’s a fun thought), I have a lot to pay forward.

And that’s a great place to be!
