#1 - Great Pyramids with a Great Sky



#2 - New Midan at night. Typically at night when it cools off Egyptian people go outdoors to enjoy the cooler climate. I was pleasantly surprised that there are some community movements in Cairo to clean up the city squares (which are actually round) to enjoy them as parks. This Midan in Maadi Cairo has been beautified by the community.



#3 - Red Sea Sunrise. As a former naval officer I could not travel to Egypt without getting to the Red Sea. A jet lagged early morning allowed me to witness another spectacular sunrise. Unfortunately it is the smog and sand in the air that makes the colours so vivid.

Nice series, second image is a bit hot on the light flare, third is a bit noisy and also in need of a crop in foreground for the shadowy disk.

Thanks John. Yes, the flare takes away from the shot for sure. I'll play around with that or see if I can find a shot I may have taken with less flare. In the third one I was trying to use the small sand bar on the beach that is in the foreground as a leading line! Guess that didn't work. Thanks for the feedback.

Stu I have been following these Cairo posts with interest, the photographs are great and your narratives informative. Egypt is my wife's dream holiday so maybe one day I could see these streets for real.

Thanks Greg. Cairo is an amazing City and Egypt an incredible country. I highly recommend a visit there some day. As you can imagine there is plenty to do and see and the local tour companies will look after you well. Also, the cost for a stay in Cairo and other Egypt destinations is about as low as it has been for many years. Having lived in Cairo from 2011-2014, the city is safer now than it has been since the 2011 revolution. Authorities are hell bent on bringing back tourism. Should you decide to go, you must also do a Nile River cruise from either Luxor - Aswan or vice versa. This section of the Nile is pure beauty and the ancient temples / Valley of the Kings / Queens are unforgettable. Finally, a few days respite at a Red Sea resort (Hurghada is my preference) is very relaxing. Enclosed is the famous Abu Simbel temple a bit further south than Aswan, but a worth while day excursion.
