The tonal range, lighting, skin textures and expression (particularly the eyes) are great. When viewing close up I was a little concerned about the dominance of the hands. However I got up to make my wife a cup of tea and noticed I found them far more acceptable when I viewed the photograph from a distance. Be interested in seeing other comments and if the viewing distance/image size makes a difference for them as well.

Jordan - I really like this shot. It is beautifully composed and executed and the harsh, edgy finish works for the character.

I especially like the treatment of the hands, as this is often the weakness of many images. While they are a prominent feature of this image, the slight softness works very well, in fact far better than I would have suspected. Often softness in the foreground detracts from the shot, but in this case it does not. Of course the soft out of focus background does what it should, and provides an nice background to the image.

Is the image perfect; no, but it is quite close, but when the biggest flaws I see are a dark spot on the man's shirt (camera left side) and a bit of railing that might be a bit darker and softer on the camera right side, I know I am getting into points that are so minor as to be almost meaningless.

Great image; what more can I say!

I agree with Manfred and only add that when I look at this picture I am sucked into those eyes and all else fades away.

    Powerful portrait.

Hi Jordan , I like the image very much What draws my attention is that his skin color on his face looks different than the skin color on his hands.May be his face needs some brightening for a more balanced look.
