Unless my eyes deceive me this would be Grenville Channel. I once was a junior keeper on Ivory Island light house and a deckhand on the Thomas Crosby 5. Beautiful part of the world.
All good shots...although I do not like #1 much because of the water treatment there. I am just not a fan of milky smooth water though some pictures with smoothies makes it to my "pleasant" thinking...The misty atmosphere and the cloud lends a beautiful rendition to this scene.#2 and #3's clouds are nice but #3's is nicer. My favourite here is #3 simply because it is a simple shot. I am almost drowning at the expanse of water foreground on all three. Not a criticism here...just an opinion. Beautiful place...
Nice shots. It reminds me of our ferry trip through the Inside Passage from Port Hardy on Vancouver Island to Prince Rupert on the BC mainland a number of years ago. As I recall, we had slightly "better" weather that day.
I'm not sure Brian, I just know I was lost in this wonderful place called Haida Gwaii.
Shot #1..It was very early in the a.m. as we weighed anchor and headed for our next destination somewhere down another channel, the sea was very calm as a result of the early hour that usually brings no wind until things start to warm up. For me the leading lines of the vessels wake work well with the calm water. Thanks Izziek for your kind comments.
Thanks Manfred, having visited there yourself, you can understand why I feel how I do about this pristine beautiful paradise. Now if we could just keep it that way without giant oil tankers messing it up.
Totally agreed.
Risks of an major environmental disaster can be reduced, but not eliminated.
Unfortunately, industry (not just the oil industry) will always be under pressure to reduce costs and something will eventually go wrong, whether through a design fault, human error, natural disaster (that whole area is a high-risk earthquake / tsunami zone) or just plain old "bad luck".
Beautiful captures of a beautiful area. As Manfred, this images Bring back memories of our
trip to Prince Rupert.

All nice shots Richard![]()
It's photos like these that drive me to see more of the world and fuel my desire to be in those photos. Beautiful photography and a real treat to see.
Wow! Wonderful country - I'd love to go there and see for myself.
Beautiful photos, I can almost feel being there .....
Thanks!

Janko
I cant tell you all how much your comments mean to me. Thank you everyone. I tried using your forum some time earlier and gave up with trying to post my work. I'm so glad I returned and feel the architecture and IQ of how this forum displays photos is very impressive. I hope to post a lot more on the Haida Gwaii hoping the same topic will not get overexposed (excuse the pun). Thank you all again, this was a nice way to start my day.
I'm looking forward to your Haida Gwaii posts. Without a doubt it is one of the most "magical" places I've visited in Canada. It's one of the few places I've been that I would like to visit again.
It's too bad that the geothermal pools on Hot Spring Island stopped working a few years ago, after the area was hit by an earthquake.
Oh, there's just so much out there and so many places that I want to go to.
Nice captures and processing.
I really like these shots, Richard. What a beautiful place. In particular, I am drawn to shot #2 and the mist and feel of the water. Isn't this a great site to learn?

Alas I'm now a pensioner with only a seniors government pension to live on. I can only dream about the Haida Gwaii Knowing I will never see it again. I call it my "Last Tango in Paris" What was special for me beyond the wildlife, was the brief encounter with the First Nations and the wonderful conversations we had. John I hope you live your dream and travel widely across this amazing planet.
