Perched right across from my apartment and still I can't fill the frame, much less get enough detail/sharpness.

The bird has been positioned at this spot for about two months, I will hopefully get more opportunities to capture his image. Currently I only have a 70-300mm lens which I used with the 2x extender, and a 500mm Rokinon f/8 reflector lens.

Doesn't it fly away, John? Could this be one of those territorial ones?

    Izzie,

It was eating and I've spotted him in this area once before. I do believe he has taken up residence on this perch.

    Hi Chauncey,

I'm working on it without having to spend more money.

Appears to be a Peregrine falcon and so you're right in thinking you'll be able to capture it again, it likely has a nest on that, or a nearby building. I believe pigeons are a large part of their (city) diet. If it keeps returning to the same building you might want to consider renting a longer lens.

Had another go at it with another lens, the OpTeka 650-1300 novelty lens.

This was captured at about 800mm, f/8, ISO 100, 1/500sec.

Never heard of the lens used for the second version but all things considered, it hasn't done a bad job.

    John,

Thanks for commenting. Very cheap alternative, works best in well lit environments but needs lots of support for stability.
