    Briggfflats Meeting House

We went walking with some friends a week ago last Friday, in the lovely area around Sedburgh. We stopped at a halfway point for a sandwich and a drink in the tranquil surroundings of the meeting house garden. The place impressed me enough to make me go back a few days later to take these shots. The Warden spotted me setting up and we had an extremely interesting chat. I had no idea (in my ignorance) of the significance of this place. The area around Sedburgh is where George Fox, after many years of struggle against the orthodox church and the Crown, effectively started the Quaker movement in 1652. The meeting house has as a result, taken on a significance to the Quaker movement world wide. Something belied by its simple nature and tranquil surroundings. The external shot is a two image panorama (portrait orientation) using a 23mm lens because of the lack of room behind me. The interior shot is made using an 8mm Samyang fisheye lens with the verticals straightened in PP. Comments very welcome.

Nice captures, the first image could use some shadow adjustments.

Any better John? Just re-uploaded it after eliminating some halos and I took the opportunity to lift the shadows in the wall.

Both nice shots now... did you happen to use your fish eye lens on the second one? Just curious...

Very nice images John It might be a good idea to reduce the sharpening on the trees, they look a bit oversharpened.

Very nice captures John. The first one is "very English" and I'm a sucker for that sort of scene.

    Thanks for all the feedback.

Izzie, the first shot was made using a 23mm WA lens. The inside shot was made using the 8mm Fisheye.

Binnur, I think that what you seeing is just the finer branches which at this time of year tend to look like that when they are not in leaf. I can't see any haloes etc. in PS when I zoom in.

Dave, it is a very beautiful part of the world that for some reason, we have only discovered in recent years despite it being on our doorstep. The fact that it has some history as well is a bonus. The reason I found it is that a couple of car hill climb events are held in the valley each year. I'm going back because the local church in Sedburgh is a gem of architecture. I captured some shots while I was there and made the basic mistake of blowing all the highlights in the stained glass windows. Needs another visit.

    Thanks to all again.

Nice shooting John. I think the understatement of the house fits in with the Quaker movement.

Thanks Steve. I'm not a Quaker but if you like a few moments of solitude, it's a nice place to be.

No halos John, they just look crisp
