Couple of shots from a wet morning...

Not the best of weather this morning, but I managed to get a couple of shots.

The first one is the river I shot last week in this thread here: River Tawe (B&W)

Its amazing the difference a week can make, a lot more green in the trees. I also moved close to the falls so that I could get more of the river above them in. The sky is basically non-existent as it was a very misty morning, but it doesn't bother me in this shot. Anyway here is the shot:

The second shot is a place I didn't even know existed until I friend mentioned that I should photograph it last week. Unfortunately I was only there for 20 minutes as the rain started coming down and it was a bit of a trek back to the car! I am definitely going back here because there is so much to shoot, this shot is just the tip of the iceberg :

    Thanks for viewing, C&C welcomed.

Another two great shots Matt. I like the line of the water flow below the falls in the first one but there is a bit of loss of detail in the bright water above the falls.

The second one is definitely my favourite. Such bold colours and great detail. Excellent.

Great Photos Matt - It is hard to see the mist in #1, feels a bit cloudy and grey. #2, is great and I really like the colors of the rocks and the contrast those add to the composition. I wonder if UWA and lower to the ground how that would work with #2.

    Nice work!!

Cheers Erik, the mist was actually further up the valley, its blocking out the mountain in the far distance. The widest lens I have goes to 18mm, I am thinking of investing in something UW though.

Matt beautiful images! I find myself wanting to spread out a blanket with a good book, wine, cheese and bread and sit on the edge of all your scenes, just soaking in the beauty!

Thanks Barbara, you would of needed your waterproofs this morning and an umbrella to stop your book getting soaked

Love the colour of the rocks and smooth water surface in #2. How long was the exposure? Both shots were great but #2 is my fave!

Hi Matt I loved #2 and can't wait to see your other shots in that area. I find the highlights a bit too much in #1. Do you watch clipping highlights on your LCD screen when shooting, it might help . Also if you take bracketed shots, you can merge the wanted parts of the images in PS for a better exposure. I have some bracketed sunset shots and I'm planning to merge them with PS too but first I have to edit enough B&W images to get more experienced

Two good shots Matt, I would suggest that when bad sky like the first shot maybe zoom in and work the interplay between the rocks and the water flowing over and around them. The foreground in the second images is interesting however the real interest is in the falls and background. You say your widest lens is 18mm, here is where putting the camera in vertical mode instead of landscape zooming in somewhat to somewhere about 3/4's the distance to where the falls flowing into the pond and taking a 2 or 3 shot pano. This looks like a very rich image environment, good luck in the future there.

    Cheers: Allan

It is cheaper and just as good or better to stitch longer focal length frames when you have shot plenty of overlap 30%+.
Though after a decade or more working with 35mm and now a 28mm AoV lenses I succumbed and bought a 14mm just for fun You have mentioned you are planning to stitch and I would say 'go for it'

I Like both of these Matt, particularly the second shot. The rain wetting the rocks has done you a favour to my eye.

I really like the 'foreground interest' aspect of both.
It really lets the viewer into the scene & feel they were there, as opposed to just looking at a picture.
Good work, it is something I am trying to learn how to do.
