    Roseate Spoonbill In Flight

After the Pelican this is my second favorite bird. CC always welcome and appreciated.

The background is a little busy but that is where it was flying so it is what it is.

Great job Barbara! I saw my first of these birds last year at the Richland Creek WMA near Corsicana, Tx. I got a few photos but non as good as yours. They must be migratory because I haven't seen any yet. Nicely done!

Thanks Izzie, I like the eyes as well. They have such a strange look about them.

Thank you John! They are so striking when they fly, that flash of pink and especially now that they are in breeding plumage.

Thank you Dave! We have them here year round. They don't tend to be this colorful out of breeding season, which is now til June. I would have thought they were in your area as well however maybe they prefer salt or at least brackish water.

Birds #1 and #3 are top quality, as one would expect of your birds in flight. #2 is soft around the eye. The busy background in #3 is most disturbing on the lowest part. I do not know, whether you could have taken it with less depth of field? It still is a good picture.

You are so lucky there with these beautiful birds to shoot Barbara, a great set. No 1's my favourite from these.

Thank you Erwin. These birds have been my most difficult to capture in flight and I am not sure why but now that I know where I can find a big group of them for at least the next 30 days I will get plenty of practice.

Thanks Grahame, you know this week I am feeling especially lucky about where I live. i have seen Pelicans,Great White Egrets, snowy egrets, cow egrets, night herons, tri-colored herons and little blue herons all nesting in huge numbers.

Now when the heat gets into the 100's in the next couple of months I may not be singing it's praises
