With many spiders, the boundary between being romantically involved and cannibalism can be very narrow. Males have a fancy courtship to convince the female his intentions are honourable. Even when he succeeds, he may still end up as dinner (she needs extra food to produce the eggs).
Fantastic pictures though!

Thank's John, I think I would be staying single![]()
Thanks for the morning laughs, David and Grahame...Do they move fast, David? or do I need to swat them first? I have my tweezers ready this morning to look for some bugs but didn't find any...what a waste of them preparing this time around only to fail...
I was about to ask about the story in #1 but you showed what it does in #3 so I will keep quiet for a while...how disgusting!
I like #2 better!!! that one perhaps does not eat its own...
All excellent shots as usual coming from you!
Cheers Izzie, what you like lol, when you get good at this Macro lark you will be able to catch them with your tweezers without splatting them, just remember when you are asleep with your mouth open, snoring your little head off their BIG brothers and sisters will be watching you![]()
A wonderful set David. I really like #2, #3 almost has the look of a child when they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar![]()
You sound just like my better half Izzielol

Very nice macro; what is the focal length of the lens you used?
Very well captured David.

These are amazing, David. They prompted not a little reading about spider cannibalism on my part. Thanks for giving me occasion to expand my knowledge about the natural world. I have a whole new set of metaphors for the human one!![]()
Adorable litter critters, and great, sharp shots as usual. All the more better knowing these images give some viewers the heebie jeebies.
