    Romance in the mud

So what do you do when the tides out, you are sat there with your stool sinking in the mud and no herons turn up?

Take fifty pictures of the tiny mud crabs and try and find something funny

    No 1 - The meeting
    Romance in the mud

No 2 - Come back to my place
    Romance in the mud

I have always wanted to get these guys from down low and close with the macro so that I get the IQ but have not yet thought of a way to keep myself reasonably clean

P.S. - Some facts (that I have just learnt).

These are actually 'Fiddler Crabs'. The males have one large and one small front claw, the smaller claw being used for eating and the large one for waving to the females to invite them into their burrow

Note the way the eye stalks remain vertical even though the body is tilted in No 2.

Thanks David, even at 400mm I have cropped these significantly and did not get too muddy, but it's the camera I worry about more than me

    Cheers, Grahame

    Grahame,
firstly, I believe some people pay fortunes for mud baths.
secondly I am also reliably informed that they are very good for the condition of your skin.
thirdly, as long as you don't get any of that glorious mud on your camera, you can be washed down.

I'd recommend borrowing a wet suit and then get down and dirty....

Seriously though, they are excellent captures. You are giving that lens a good workout!

Binnur, Matt, Rita, David, Kaye, John and James,

Thank you each for commenting, I'm surprised these are such popular little fellas. I will continue to explore their habitat in an attempt to try and find a way of getting in much closer.

Grahame, these are brilliant, a great subject and so well captured. I look forward to more pictures of their antics - they are fascinating creatures that are oft ignored.

Thanks Mark, I have found some images of these by another photographer on the web and they sure have potential for some great pictures.
