Thread: Put away your cameras, and get into the kitchen...

  1. #1

Put away your cameras, and get into the kitchen...

And when you are there... get your cameras out again, as you are going to need them.

Post shots of anything that you would normally find in the kitchen - utensils, crockery, food items, last-night's curry, etc. The objectives here are to practise your creative skills, utilize whatever lighting you have, hone your composition skills, and generally come up with something interesting. Everyone has a kitchen (except Jimmy Saville) so you can all try this.

One shot per post, but as many as you like. Comment on any other shot.

Here are a couple to get things going...

I like the tones on "A cut above" I can't find anything interesting in my kitchen. Maybe tomorrow, it's supposed to rain again.

You should send some of your images to Kohler to show them what they are doing wrong.

    Well done Rob
I don't know if the image in landscape mode wouldn't be better than the way it is ...
I have to go to the kitchen and try one of these myself

In fact when I cook vegetables and cut them in half - like a cauliflower or a cabbage for example - I always appreciate the shapes and forms inside.

These four were shot this morning. I just used a single studio light behind the subject and shone through a diffuser. I added a little front light with a halogen lamp and a reflector.

    All very beautiful.
The worst - if this is the right word for it - is the 1.st one where I can't find a precise point of focus. Or is it just me ?
I like the blurred version a lot.

Did you mean the un-even canvas ?

(Is this way of saying the canvas is not equal around, a correct one ?)

Antonio, the point of focus is supposed to be the front edge of the spoon - but I may have moved as it was hand-held. I don't normally do this sort of extreme OOF so I thought I'd give it a go. Perhaps I should have had a little more of the spoon in focus?

You want to try cooking it first, Antonio? Very good - very abstract. Colours are very good. This is the sort of shot I was hoping for.

Is it a fish? It looks very similar to your avatar (I don't mean that you look like a fish, I mean the style and shape etc). I'd better stop there...

    Dinner again

Now that I look at this image on the net, you know what ? I don't like it.
But since it is posted and I had all the time spent on it ... I'll keep it here.

    1.25 pounds of bananas

and an old toothbrush used to clean things with.

Definitely harder than my 10D and is going to take some getting used to; my kitchen isn't very clean but then I don't care.

Put away your cameras, and get into the kitchen...

    Chris,

For some reason your shot doesn't show, although I can see it if I grab the URL and go to a new window. Anyone else not see it?

Good colours and composition. Get a dishwasher?

How long have you had the 50D? Good choice. Is the wine to celebrate?
