Yes, you must have a blackdrop, white or even pale colour just doesn't work. I suppose you could try it at night?

It was at night Rob but the backdrop was too close and too cluttered.

It really is nothing much because I was trying out the strobe effect for the first time and very much just experimenting.

Poor thing. How many times did he have to do that run? Yes, that was what I was thinking of, but on that scale you would need to remove the reflective objects and perhaps put a snoot on the flash (rolled up piece of black card would do it) to narrow down the flash area. It would also help to have infinity space behind him so the flash had no effect behind him. A beach at night would be good - do you have a beach nearby?

What flash were you using?

She only ran through once. It wasn't the dog that didn't have the patience to keep re-doing it, it was my wife (who is not a photographer) who only wanted to call her through once.
We do have a beach quite close but I just haven't got around to trying this sort of thing again. I'll have to get my priorities back in the right order.
