    A quick snap this morning

I opened the door this morning and this 'thing' fell onto me

    A quick snap this morning

Not knowing what it was and feeling somewhat apprehensive I grabbed my camera for a quick snap. It was very persistant in wanting to explore my house which was not what I wanted so I grabbed a tissue and it grabbed the tissue and I was able to remove it to the garden.

I am told it is a stick insect and was perhaps 120mm/ 5 inches overall ... shoe lace in top right corener.

Looks like it can camouflage itself well on bamboo or something similar...interesting shape. Your shoelace eats more than this insect...(fatter? )

I find it hard to believe you hadn't seen one before, John. It won't hurt you. You can pick it up and play with it. We used to keep them as 'pets' when I was a kid. They do prefer their freedom, though.

An interesting picture. They used to be quite common and I seem to remember had a predilection for certain trees but I haven't seen one for a while.
