    Mughal Fine Art. C&C Welcome

Hi, going forward on my photography venture I stopped and clicked another shot. Can you please review it and let me know what exactly is missing for it to make it much better?

It is a shot of a pillar in Qutub Minar, in New Delhi.

Please provide your views and suggestion with composition, crop and processing with the two versions.
    1. Details around the pillar : provides mystery in viewer's mind and wanted to see more of it.
    2. No details around the pillar : to show only the beautiful artwork on the pillar.

    Thank You

PS : Please click on the image for lightbox screen view (Highly recommended)

    Pillar with environmental details :

    Pillar only with spotlight :

Update #1 : Made the pillar offcenter and fixed the tilt as suggested.

Hi Raj - nice work (again).

I prefer the first image to the second one. Somehow the hint of a background seems to work better for me that the black "nothingness" of the second one.

A few things that bother me a bit about the first one is that the subject is too centred and it looks like it is leaning from left to right. Try a bit more of an asymmetrical approach and see what that does for the shot (rule of thirds stuff) and perhaps straightening it out a bit.

    Hi Raj,
technically both shots are very nice, show the details of the pillar and both have a certain atmosphere with excellent light. My preference is for the first one for the reasons you state " provides mystery in viewer's mind and wanted to see more of it" and I do indeed want to see more of it.
The composition is a bit central and although the subject is interesting there is not much more to engage the viewer. As a photographer I can appreciate the light and form but I would love to see more of the pillar in its context. Personally if it were possible I may have shot this in landscape showing much more of the surroundings.
Very nice shots as far as they go but left me wanting more.

No, I am back in Canada now, we arrived earlier this week (Sunday afternoon after a 3:30 in the morning departure from Delhi). Two months certainly go by when one is busy and is having fun...

We miss the weather already. We are having typical late November weather here - gray and cold. There is a bit of snow in the air as well.

Nicely done, I like a hint of background as it adds or emphasizes the depth of the enclosure.
