    Annapurna South just after sunrise

This is the hardest I've ever had to work at to get a shot. This is the 7273m high Annapurna South mountain taken less than an hour after sunrise. To get this shot, we trekked from the trail head at Naya Pul (800m) to Poon Hill (3210m), a distance of over 25km over two days to get this shot.

Now that we are safely back in Pokhara, taking a break after a 72km trek in the Himalayas, I am enjoying a day of just resting...

I can imagine that you are. But, my goodness, it was worth the walk. Wonderful image. But I'm sure the trek was so much more than just this scene. I'm sure all of it was magical.

Well done Manfred, not just for the image but for your determination and effort to get there to make the image.

+1 to this and Donald's post. Something I dream of doing with my family one day.

Beautiful! I would suspect that this is likely one of many you took over the two days but what a showcase for your effort!

I took a lot less than I expected to. The scenery on the first day was so-so and most of the second day was spent going through the forest with few openings to shoot through (lots of small waterfalls, though). The trails were mostly century old trade routes that have stairs made of locally available rock, so the footing was uneven. With the domesticated animals and pack ponies and horses using the trail too (as well as using it as a toilet) made for fairly tricky footing, so we spent most of our time watching where we were going, rather than looking at the scenery.

The scenery did not really open up until we hit Ghorepani at the end of the second day and the clouds had settled in over the mountains, so the view was okay, rather than great. Nice scenery on the third day walking along the ridge with the Annapurna range in view as well as the fourth day as we got down lower into the valleys and saw the numerous villages and farms.

Nicely said, I'll have lots of images to post when I get home and have a chance to go through them.

That's a classic image Manfred. I really like the fact that you have managed to catch the snow blowing off the peak. It adds a real feel to the story of where you were. Some memories there then.

Very bold statement with your photo. I thought this was Ben Lomond Peak at first.

I'm pretty sure Paramount Pictures would of liked to have talked to you about 100 years ago.

Indeed, a spectacular image of a mountain! Thank you for sharing. Absolutely gorgeous!

I too, love the wisps of snow/cloud/mist on the peak.

    Great shot, enjoyed viewing.

That was some gain in altitude over 2 days, very impressive.

Everyone has used up the superlatives! I am reminded of a past student of mine called Annapurna. She always maintained that it was because she was conceived there.
