    Munkebu Hut & Environs

I thought sure I was done posting photos of Lofoten, Norway but I came upon two photos that are especially important as memories if not as images. The most important hike for me was the hike that goes to Munkebu Hut, which is maintained for backpackers spending the night there. I knew from my research that the scenery was drop-dead gorgeous and I was determined to get there even though my wife was skeptical that we would be able to do such a difficult hike.

Well, we did get there and the two scenes shown below were captured from where we ate lunch. It was the middle of the day when the light was at its worst and there was lots of haze. I really didn't think we had any images worthy of being presented here but I was able to post-process these two to my satisfaction considering the circumstances.

The lakes in the first image (captured by my wife and post-processed by me) are located to the left of the hut. The hut is smack dab in the middle of incredible scenery.

Very, very nice scenery Mike. Mrs B has a photographers eye, congratulations to you both on the first image, well done. The hut looks to be in a remote but beautiful place.

That first image has such nice, rich tones at the near left corner, I would check to see if you composed another with more included. Nicely captured both images.

    Thanks, guys!

John: Agreed about the warm tones in the left corner of the first one but we don't have another image with more of that vegetation. I have no idea how my wife found that composition. Despite walking all around the area, I never saw anything that good.

Mike, as always I enjoy your showing me places that I'll never have a chance to see in
person and for that, I thank you. Keep them coming my friend.

Gorgeous images! (both) What a beautiful place.

Your image #2 is my favourite of the series. Absolutely stunning, and represents one of the type of mountain scenes (composition, colours, sharpness, fairy-tale like scenery) I hope to be able to capture so beautifully, one day. Very nice to know that it was taken in mid-day light.

    Thank you for sharing.

It does indeed seem to be. The inclusion of the buildings in the second one is excellent in that it gives us the sense of scale.

    Thanks, everyone!

Seeing the last photo makes me wonder how we hiked such steep terrain for so long (four hours out and four hours back not including lunch). My wife carries a backpack when filled with water that weighs about 15 pounds (7 kg) and is hampered because she never feels sure-footed. Her backpack is twice as heavy as mine despite that she weighs nearly 40% less than me.

Lovely images. That little red cabin nestled amidst those towering peaks is truly a photographer's delight.

Well worth the hike in! (easy for me to say, huh?) I love the balance of the lakes in the first composition and it is such striking scenery. I agree with Donald on the second. The inclusion of the structures really makes it.

    Continued thanks to all!

Just to be clear to everyone, I didn't include the buildings in the second image just to provide scale. I included them to prove how far we had hiked. We saw only two people all day that were our age and they weren't carrying any equipment.

That is some lovely scenery and some challenging terrain, Mike. And a couple more great shots.

    Mike;

I'm late to the party and am just now getting to take a good look at the remainder of your Norway shots.

Both of these images are great and a well deserved reward for the hours of hiking that you put in to get there (and back). While the first is very nice I agree with others that the 2nd is awesome due to the inclusion of the structures and their pop of red in the sea of green mountains.
