Boats in a gloomy weather

Although the weather is very cloudy and sometimes windy today, I couldn't wait for it to get better and I took some photographs in the afternoon. My goal is to create compositions with some plants in the foreground. Here is the first one. C&C appreciated

I changed the title as 'Boats behind the bushes' because 'Boats in a gloomy weather' was misleading.

Nice image, however with this perspective you've made the plants the subject of interest (dominating the frame) and the small boats are reduced to specs, the horizon equally draws us in but nothing of interest. Two ways that could help this arrangement:

1. Lower your angle of view.
2. Zoom in on the boats.

Thank you John May be I should have used a different title for the thread because I'm actually happy with the high bushes dominating the frame . ' Boats behind the bushes' would have been a better title, but it is too late to change it now Well I think I managed to change the title at least in the first post

Beautifully photographed, with gorgeous colour. If this were my image I would crop a bit off of the left hand side just after the lighthouse. I'm not sure why I prefer that crop but it may be that the beauty of the all those bushes in the foreground overwhelms the rest of the image a wee bit.

Then lowering your angle of view would definitely help emphasize the bushes more with less emphasis on the horizon.

Hi Binnur,

In hindsight I'm truly not the best person to advise on cropping. Of your crops I prefer the 1st version.

I like how the corner of the fence points to the boats, and then you view the horizon and back to the beautiful bush...

Hi, Binnur. Nice image, with delightfull colors. I like this version better. I think the foreground (the bushes) are well balanced with the boats and the portion of sky. Just check the horizon level. It looks, to me, it needs a 0,5 degree clockwise correction .

Hi Binnur,

What spoils this for me is hard to describe, but I think it is lateral Chromatic Aberration (CA).

This is most apparent to me on the extreme left hand side of the first image - on the grass that cuts the horizon. There are separate red and cyan highlights caused by the CA error width (in pixels) matching the width of the grass stems, leading to a double image a bit like "3D" coded image.

I see from the EXIF you have Photoshop CC, this problem should be easily fixable on the Camera Lens Corrections tab in ACR.

Is any one else seeing that, or should I visit an optician?

I see it too, Dave, but I didn't realise it was CA. I assumed it was just part of the local vegetation...

Thank you Dave and Greg This image was hard for me too. I had to sharpen the image with 'camera shake' filter instead of USM, because the result was better. I thought I shooke the camera too much because where I stood wasn't very steady. I will look at the image thorougly and try to correct it. Good practise for me

Dave and Greg, I just made a short trial with the RAW file for removing CA and the image improved some more, thanks I will have to take the PSD file back to ACR for correction later. As far as I remember, I played with the colours of the bushes for pushing saturation too much in reds ( or oranges I can't remember) and decreasing saturation in greens. May be this is one of the reasons why the image was spoilt.
