Don't forget to include backlighting. As for making your shooting easier, forget that: try getting down really low and shooting from the underside of the flower.

Izzie, I like #2 compositionally. Colors do seem a bit saturated and you have some blown highlights and black shadows.
Hope your doggy is feeling better.

Good shots Izzie. A little overdone with your PP but the lighting is tough to handle. Your composition again is your strong suit.

I like #3 for its details of petal patterns; as far as color saturation is considered #1 looks best

Hoping your dog is better soon. Please don't give up. You've got so much of it right! Good sharp focus and DOF. If you have lots of iris then you will be able to find a composition that provides a nice background in nice light. By the way, I find Iris to be a most difficult flower to photograph. The unusual shape is challenging. And as far as doing it in the studio or outdoors, I guess that depends what type of look you want and which setup will make it easiest to create. I'm an outdoors, nature kind of gal and much prefer prefer working outside. But that's just my style. Then you have the Mike's and Terry's of the world that do all that wonderful stuff inside.

    OFF TOPIC:

Jack and Terri -- thank you. Yes. He is getting better but he is eating me out of my den and in our bedroom. He is on steroids at the moment because his red blood cells was taking over his white blood cells which are very immature, hence the steroids. His blood platelets are getting better so he is off to 2 tabs/day. He is still not gaining weight though so he still eat like crazy and drink like crazy to the point of waking us up in the middle of the night so he can go out and do his duties then expect to be given a treat as soon as he comes inside the door. He is sending me bonkers with his eating and drinking, but we are happy with his improvement though the lethargy is still there once in a while...we are down to two weeks visits from the doctor now. Can you imagine a dog having his own dietician, his own oncologist and a slew of other doctors trying to find out what went wrong with him? Well, he has all those! We don't mind the cost -- we just want to know what he has after all the elimination process he is undergoing. Blood tests every week and yet no reason why he got sick, what he has, etc. We may never know...
