They are not apples
Something fairly small from my last visit to the woods.
Any budding botanists out there?
I will wait a while before giving the answer.

Intriguing little flowers, and well done. Not a flower I am familiar with but I will give it a shot. Clementus viorna?

Hi Geoff. Technically excellent and I love the colors.
I wonder if you could have found an image with three "apples" in it. For some reason, odd numbers are more appealing than even numbers. This image is almost too balanced. Just a thought for your consideration.

Looks like blueberry blossoms. I've shot many of the various varieties of what are collectively referred to as wild blueberries and that's what they all look like in varying shades.

Re: They are not apples
Yes, Randy has it! And others.
Bilberry; comes with bluish black berries in the autumn. And in the woods, birds seem to take them quite quickly.
The original shot had three blooms. Another towards the top left corner; but that left a rather confused dark and unattractive area in the bottom corner so I cropped tighter like this.
I did try to find some tighter groupings, and this is a merge of two shots. But I was kneeling in water alongside a narrow rough path and there was a group of people approaching me with unruly dogs off the lead. So I just gave up any moved off to a more relaxed area where I found some interesting insects.
