Discarded
I took this photo awhile ago while there was still ice on the ponds around here. Everything was just starting to melt and it looked like some kids forgot to take their slightly broken hockey net off of the ice. I'm not sure that the ice would have been safe to cross at that point so it looked like the net would eventually end up in the water (though I hope it didn't).
The net was on a pond right near a road. I took a few shots that also showed the surrounding area. I was attempting to show how it was left, discarded in the middle of a half-frozen pond. I think the extra stuff around the ice was distracting so I settled for this. I tried to do a sort of b&w photo, with only the net having colour. I figure it emphasizes the net nicely.

Looking for c&c on this one. I think it turned out but I also think there's something more I can do to make it better.

Re: Discarded
Hi Kyle,
just a thought for an alternate view and something to try. See if you like it any better using the Rule of Thirds and perhaps zooming in a little closer the emphasize the hockey net just a bit more.

Re: Discarded
That is what I thought so too, Frank! The hockey net is just too centred.

Re: Discarded
Thanks for the comment John!
Frank and Isabel, I find that most of my photos follow the rule of third (at least somewhat) and are almost always offset. I rarely center a focal point. I had to crop the width of this photo quite a bit to get it offset but I think it makes it better.
