Braw images Benjy,iv'e yet to see one of these in the wild![]()
Nice birds - the second two are nicer for me because there's more bird and less tree/sky, but both of those lose some impact for me because the subject is dead-centered. I like the pose captured in the third best, but it seems a tad less sharp than the second. Hope there's a nest for you to work on soon!
David,Balloch park mate, been rattling tree trunks like mad past two days...![]()
Frank,I like all three, for the simple reason that I managed to catch a half decent photo of Woody,I think focus is a bit off and would have liked sky a bit more blue, thanks for view and comment....![]()
#3 is the best for me; i think a trim out from #1 showing a close up of the bird will work well. Regards![]()
Good captures Bernard, I like them all and would also be pleased if I managed to get shots of a Woody like this.

Your shots are good enough for me. At least it is there in the photo, not anywhere near my property.![]()
Hi,thanks for all views and comments...![]()
I liked all three as well but like you I find the sky washed out. If you can do any post processing the sky is an easy fix.
I find very significant detail and an utterly fascinating tree trunk particularly in the last two where the sky is smaller portion of the image. In fact, the tree itself is so intricate and the woody appears to be a bit soft, that the image seems to be more of a tree with the woody complementing the tree and adding a touch of color.
The thing that saves the woody from blending in to much is that a living object, particularly one with eyes and an expression on its face will command more attention than a static object like a tree. It is that visible expression that makes #3 my favorite.
Hope this helps!
Hi Frank, thanks for kind comment,Ican only do basic post processing shouid really make some effort to improve, there were actually two birds the one in view and one to the rear,as you can see he seems to be listening in second shot as one would rattle the tree then other in background,I was watching this on live view screen it was very interesting to view, think it was some sort of mating going on,thanks again for comments...
