Re: Fell Farm
Very nice scenery John and you capture the ambience of it too. It will even be better if you lose the bush at the left of the fence so the concentration of the road and the fence points more to the house. The background is misty and will nicely presented if not for the banding of blue and pink there...(or is it my screen?) T'will be nice to hang this on the wall...

Re: Fell Farm
That's a very good composition, in my opinion. Not so keen on the border around it. It feels too heavy/restricting overbearing for the image. But that's just my opinion as well.

Re: Fell Farm
Thanks for your comments all.
Isabel, I can't see any banding. I know it sometimes does occur particularly after downsizing a mono image - anyone know why?
Thanks Donald. Coming from you, that's valued. Borders are a constant point of discussion. Mine tend to be more a means of presenting the image against a neutral BG, usually because the image has been used elsewhere. The forum does this anyway I know.
Binnur, see below. This is the original colour version. It's one of those few images that I like both versions of but I chose the Mono for a bit of variety.

Re: Fell Farm
Lovely image - beautifully composed. The color has some very appealing tones and hues but the monochrome does work better for me. Not sure why, but I think because in the monochrome the image simplifies into fewer larger forms and lines that make the composition so strong.

Re: Fell Farm
John. I like the color version more because the vegetation are different in colour. Beside, the mist is depicted better in color contrast.
this is one smooth (on the eyes) image

Re: Fell Farm
John - Let me add to the group that prefers the colour image. The image really has a fairly limited number of colours in it to begin with, so the simplifying impact of B&W is really not all that large, and really does not show the lushness of the scene.
I find the colour and positioning of the white farmhouse works brilliantly; the viewer's eyes are drawn right into the scene. The yellow tree breaks the green a bit, but being in the same tonal range, does so without being obtrusive. The grey clouds provide a natural vignette, directly the viewer's eyes down int the centre of the image.
Nicely done!

Re: Fell Farm
Colour version for me - but I do like the B/W as well.
It's a total different mood IMHO.
Lovely scene!

Re: Fell Farm
I really like the color version of the lovely country scene John and I agree with Kris that the black and white creates and entirely different, more somber, mood.
Depending on what your goal was I pick the one you like best as they are both very nice!
