    The conditions we endure...

Two quick snaps of what we are assailed with everyday we go out to shoot. Multiply this by 10 for what it has been really like for most of this particular winter.

Three long trips for Snowy Owls and all for just 2 documentary shots of the conditions. LOL

C&C not needed. Just sharing. I am lousy with landscapes and do not have the tenacity of Christina to get better at them (just yet).

That is not my kind of weather Bobo. I was out shooting at sunrise this morning in shorts and tee shirt.

Aw come on Bobo, forget Christina here for a while. This is your photo and you got a good eye for it no matter what you think of your style. These are both good ones. I particularly like the B/W treatment here...bad weather. It really gets to me now ... this cold feeling...and you are able to convey this feeling through your shots here.

I wish I am back in Oz Dave, if only for the weather ...(afraid hubby will divorce me if I go back just after coming back from there...)

Thanks Isabel. I mentioned C because she is really trying and I admire her for that.

It is not so much the cold, I can take it, but those winds can make a -10c feel like a -30c. That is when the troubles start. Frozen fingertips (last time took 3 days for feeling to return) is one. Equipment protection is the other. One guy had his expensive Nikon and prime on tripod blown right over. Onto snow would have been nice but his hit the ice. Then there is the ice and even icers can sometimes not grip nicely enough.

Ah well it will end soon so....

Posted these shots so some would know what "ahhh that is a beautiful shot" actually entails for the likes of those not blessed with Florida or Aussieland. Those who live in the tropics would not understand anyway.

Bobo, not discounting Christina -- she is doing a great job and improved a great deal. I just do not agree with the comparison when you are doing a great job yourself here. And this shot wasn't an "accident" by any means...

The tropics has its own pull and push too just like any other place...for instance, Florida is birdieland for me and restaurants, beaches -- whereas Aussieland is just pure wonderful (weatherwise at most times than not...) They have everything in Oz except living cheaply.

    Bobo; remember spring is coming!

Yep, I'm getting tired of those days. It was -20C when I pulled out of the driveway this morning (not counting the windchill). I thought things are supposed to warm up in March. The good news is that we are finally getting back to more normal temperatures starting today (daytime highs just below 0C).

    Hi Bobo,

I think these are nice...you certainly captured the cold and wind beautifully!

It is apparent that I am a wimp. During our recent rare cold spell, on a day when it was around -7 Celsius my fingers were absolutely frozen so I walked to the nearest coffee shop to warm up. It took about 1/2 hour to warm up and restore feeling. I thought I was dying of frostbite. 3 Days!

PS Your tenacity is exemplary. Owls, ducks in the snow...etc, etc...

    Thanks Hui Song.

LOL Dan, that can only be Snowy Owl. To make your wish come true, I may have to give up principles here. Today was another no-find. They may have already started moving back to the Arctic...

    Bobo,

I’ve been trying to thing what to say to you.

These images make me think of what it must be like, trying to live in my fridge (no, FREEZER), adding a massive fan.

    No warm beers!

True Andre. In those conditions we don't want a cold one either. The best tonic is usually the lowly hot coffee. Best because the cup becomes a darn nice hand-warmer.
