I promised no more of these but the temptation was too much

Went back out today and took some more duck and goose shots. For some reason I can't get enough of these guys and they are good practice. I don't know if I'm improving or not, but let me know what you see.

    1. To me this guy just looks angry. Of course, with a nose like that, I would be angry too.

    2. Touch down. (I wish the focus had been a tad sharper)
I promised no more of these but the temptation was too much

    3. I don't do much in Black and White. In the 80's and 90's that was all I shot. I'm just terrible at post processing digital images to black and white.

    4. Gull in flight. (His wing got in the way of the sun highlighting his eye)

    5. Mallards in flight. Again, focus was an issue but these suckers are FAST!!!

We have ducks on our farm and one of them is happy to be plonked in front of a background and have her photo taken (so long as there is something to nibble). Have you entered a wildlife magazine?

Like 'em. We all have favorite subjects (a dog, a tree, a mountain) that we can't get enough of. Love the lighting for your gull - not schemed out perhaps, but caught nonetheless. Nice.

It my be my monitor but are you seeing the halo around the angry bird? If so it might because I did some selective blurring to get more bokeh behind the bird. I'm not very strong at post processing but I am trying to learn.

Out of curiosity, does the black and white conversion work?

I don't know if ducks and gulls are a favorite but I am definitely drawn to them. In west Texas photographic opportunities in the winter are very few and far between. I think part of the attraction to them is we turn it into a family outing. My son and daughters go with me and feed both the domestic and wild ducks and I am learning more and more about panning and camera settings. My son was the only one foolish enough to brave the temperatures yesterday. We were at 72 degrees at noon and by the time I got out to take these pictures the temp had dropped to 36 degrees and the wind out of the north east brought the windchill to 15 degrees. Weather around here is like a yo-yo. We are at 21 degrees right now and expecting an inch or two of snow tonight, a high of 36 tomorrow and Wednesday will be almost 60.

Not really, not enough detail in the bird. Was this a cropped image?

I cropped it to a portrait. I took this picture from about mid-breast up.

Not at all in that; only when the birds are seen against the sky......
    Regards
