I think this subject has a lot of potential, Karm, but it isn't working for me at the moment. I think you need to get in a lot closer and isolate one or two of those pylons. Get a bit of focus on around the water level and the shells, maybe. Even just cropping down to the 2nd horizontal row of beams -- which removes all the grass -- improves the composition for me.

I like Gregs idea of the crop. I held an envelope over the top 1/2 and this becomes more of an abstract sort. Theres a lot of interest here but seems a little busy.

    Re: Cement Pilings

    Thanks Bruce.

Greg and James, I tried crops that got in close and I didn't care for them. I can see getting rid of the grass in the background and I also see lobbing off various other parts of the top of the pilings. I admit that I struggled with this crop. Nothing really jumps out at me. I also like the image's potential but I'm having difficulty settling on something. That's one reason I posted this image to see what others thought.

    Karm,

Difficult one this. I would crop at the tidemark on the concrete, but its a shame that all the full length reflections then don't go all the way down.

Ian, in the original image the reflections do go all the way down. I cut them off. The image seemed too elongated with the full reflection. I'll revisit the image and see if your suggestion has appeal to me. Thanks.

I can see why this grabbed your attention Karm. It has a number of interesting aspects and I feel that there is a real winner there but you will likely need to work the scene a bit more to coax the best out of it.

If you can, you might just want to return for a reshoot, trying different angles, lighting, and maybe even different weather conditions while letting the composition speak to you of what it was that attracted you to stop and photograph this scene.

Wavelength, no, I don't mind you playing with my image. I think your rendition captures the spirit of many of the suggestions given. It still seems to be missing something.

Frank, I agree that it has a lot of potential. The image I showed is already heavily cropped. What I'm showing is what I found to be the best of all potential crops I tried. I'm going to let it rest and return to the original image and rework it from scratch. Maybe there's not enough there to make a good photograph. I appreciate all the suggestions given.
