    Silly Theme challenge

It's a silly story. Last night, I was talking to a friend about my new found hobby and I told him that there's so much to learn about photography as it is limitless. In a tipsy state, he challenged me to use photography to depict a TV show title in the most unique way. I dont watch much TV so I was struggling with ideas, but this afternoon, I came up with this

As per usual, let me know what you think. Also, I have not read "Light, Magic and Science" yet but I will purchase it soon. Cheers CIC

haha... I wasn't tipsy this afternoon Nancy. But I do enjoy a few glasses of Red every now and then. It was my mate who was a bit tipsy during our dinner conversation last night.

    Very nice job, Dean.

For a couple variations on your composition, consider the following:

Displaying the entire King and Queen pieces by positioning the pawns more to the side
Angling the rows of pawns so they are not not so parallel, creating more of a "V" pattern
    Making both modifications

You may not need a bigger piece, Dean. Don't feel as if you have to include the entire width of the pawns in your image. It might be stronger to allow only about half of the forward pawns to be displayed.

Very creative. I agree with both the prior recommendations. Actually if you clip the pawns a bit and run them all the way to the bottom corners of the frame it may give the impression of being shot from the middle of an endless line. But definitely clearing the view of the king/queen all the way to the base would be an improvement IMO. Either way, a great concept and the original image is really cool. Nice job.

    Re: Silly Theme challenge revisit

The second image in this recent series of three images is by far my favorite of all the images in the thread. Very nicely done! Consider allowing more space at the top and bottom and consider changing the border to one that is the same dimension on all sides.

In the first image of this last series, the subject is the paired king and queen. If you had allowed their total separation in the composition, they would have stood out better in my mind. Your concept is so nice that I hope you consider shooting it again with that revision in mind.

The last image doesn't work for me because the translucent pieces look dirty rather than translucent. That's just my own personal reaction that the translucent characteristic is so much more appealing when the dark background is used.

Have you dropped the movie connection? I thought that was unique.
