    Lens Not Compatible?

Going through the listing in their drop down menu it says that this lens will not work on my Nikon D5200

Tamron AF 70-200mm f/2.8 Di LD IF Macro Lens with Built in Motor for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras (Model A001NII)

Is that correct and can I ask why?

I have not used the lens but did some research on-line. As your description states when purchased with a Nikon mount it is supposed to have an internal focus motor which would be required for autofocus with 3000 and 5000 series Nikon cameras. I did find several places where it was said that this lens will not work with cameras without internal focus motors. Some Tamron lenses with Nikon mounts didn't have focus motors in the past so required manual focusing on these cameras. Maybe you will get lucky and someone here has the lens. Otherwise I would find one in a store and give it a try on your camera.

I don't know if it applies to third party lenses, but within the Nikon line you want AF-S lenses.

I guess my question could be rephrased to ask

" Do I have any hope of owning a 70-200 f/2.8 Tamron lens that focuses without manual focusing without going full frame?"

I already own the Tamron 28-300 f/3.5-6.3 but when shooting birds it's a focusing disaster for me as it had no focus motor built in.

here's a link to customer review for the Tamron 70-200mm, the user had a Nikon D5000 which doesn't have a built-in focus motor. If you have a camera store nearby try it on your camera first, provided they have one in stock.

    Re: Lens Not Compatible?

I have a Nikon D3100 and I have a Tamron 70-200mm and it works great! It's my favourite lens rarely off my camera.

Here is a picture taken at a Taekwondo Tournament with this lens.

    Lens Not Compatible?

I tried it with my camera in the store before I bought.
    Hope this helps

    Re: Lens Not Compatible?

In my experience, Tamron is not very good at differentiating models. About three or four years ago, they retrofit internal motors into most of their Nikon line of lenses, but the lenses seem to be named exactly the same thing as when they didn't have the internal motors. So it is quite easy to be misled if buying a second-hand lens as to whether it has the motor or not. FWIW
