    Frank,

Have you given any thought to shooting aircraft at a better time of day to capture a more colourful sky, or at night?

    eg

    Welcome to Charlotte

I have Colin, but I'll need to find a different airport as locations at CLT where you can shoot from are very limited and daylight hours only.

I love your airport shots and recall a special one you did with light trails at night leading right to a sharp image of the aircraft still in flight. These are great but that one was absolutely awesome!

Thanks Frank - that would be the "back to basics" shot? (click for bigger view!)

    Welcome to Charlotte

I'll bet that one will get new members guessing as to how I did it!

That be the one all right!

Now if we can just get the older members to zip their lip a bit, it would be interesting to see how many of the new folks can figure out how you captured that image!

I would suggest taking a very close look at his final version.

    I have; it looks good.

Really not sure what you're trying to achieve with your version (and others have alluded to this also), but it's a significant degradation of the original work. Are you trying for some kind of artistic interpretation?

I think perhaps you need to take a really close look at your version; perhaps you just uploaded the wrong one?

Can't resist taking a guess at this one. Long exposure to get the light trails, small aperture to get the stars, or you pp'd them in. For the panorama you used more than one plane landing and put the shots together in pp.......or something completely different

    Hmmm.

First clue - it's the same aeroplane, at the same time

Ok, I'm scratching my head on it trying to work into a "brilliant" idea.

    Not kidding

My old Canon 1Ds3 and my newer Canon 1D X.

Lenses were more of a compromise though - needed 2x 85mm, so used the EF70-200mm F2.8L IS USM II and EF85mm F1.2L USM II.
