    Snowy Owl

This is the first Snowy Owl that we have ever seen. It was sitting on top of an apartment building in Belmar, NJ by the inlet from the ocean.

Nice capture Steve. What are snowy owls doing in New Jersey? I live in Collingswood and I've seen a couple in Knights Park. Does this mean we are in for a long cold winter??

Beautiful bird Steve. I would love an opportunity to capture images of one, most likely not much of a chance in Florida.

Travis - I don't know what they are doing around here this year. I have never seen one before. There are 3 hanging out in the Edwin Forsythe WMA in Absecon and I read where there were 10 spotted the other day on the lower end of LBI.

Joe - Thanks for the comments. I would have liked to catch him in a more natural environment but I am not complaining.

Nice - and unusual contrast within the subject matter: an exotic wildfowl and roof vents. Good eye. And what, by the way. is the unusual gangly doodad overtopping everything?

Mark - I believe that it is actually to keep birds off of whatever they are covering. I saw a lot of this these the last time in NYC. Thanks for the comments.

    SDteve,
Nice capture; how about getting a bird-only crop?

Sounds like quite a capture, and a good shot it is too.

    Re: Snowy Owl 2013 invasion

Last year they said that the Snowy Owls were further south due to a collapse of their natural food source. However several have been spotted this year already, perhaps indicating that this will be a big year also. I've seen several photos from the Middle of the US (Missouri)
